GOAN WELFARE SOCIETY (GWS) MANAGING COMMITTEE FOR THE YEAR 2000-2002:

The  Annual  General Body Meeting  of the Goan Welfare Society (GWS) which was held at the Indian Arts Circle Auditorium, Kuwait on  9th June 2000 at 11:00 a.m. was well attended and the members present freely expressed their views on the various  topics set for discussion. They  were  seen  evincing  keen  interest in the well being of the Society and were very appreciative of the Managing Committee's  achievements conspicuous  of his presence was the patron member of GWS,Mr.Sam Alphonso, who made  it  a  point to  attend the meeting, despite his busy schedule.

In his  mature  thinking,  Mr. Sam Alphonso, expressed his  opinions  on  vital issues  a n d  made  valuable suggestions towards furtherance of the interest of the Society,  which  were well appreciated by  the General Body as well as the members  of the Managing Committee of GWS.  What is important is, he did  not hesitate to condemn one who ostensibly tried to hamper the progress  of  the renowned Society  which is the front runner, not only among  the  Goan community  but among the Indian community as well.

In his generosity, Mr. Sam Alphonso  offered a further donation of Rs.50,000.00 towards Scholarship Awards to meritorious Goan students in Goa and at the same time, re-affirmed his commitment to  the  Scholarship Awards to  meritorious Goans  in Kuwait.  That speaks volumes of his magnanimity and his  concern for the well being of Goans all around.

Important decisions  were taken at the AGM, which were a result of lively fruitful deliberations that ensued throughout the meeting.

The following members were elected unanimously to fill the six (6) positions in the Managing Committee as per the constitution of GWS.  

They are:
- Alex Wilson Coelho,
- Gaspar Almeida,
- Cajetan Pereira,
- Menino Duarte,
- Rabindra Pimenta, and
- Tony Cordeiro.

The meeting was followed by a get-together of members, their families and friends.  The  special invitees for the  same  were  Presidents,  General  Secretaries and Treasurers of the various Goan football clubs existing in Kuwait.

After the meeting,  delicious meals were served and as members  and guests were  interacting, a game of bingo was conducted  in  order  to raise funds for the Prime Minister's  Relief  Fund on the initiative made by the Indian Embassy.

An amount of Rs.10,323.89 was contributed  and will be handed over to H.E. the Ambassador of  India to Kuwait for forwarding to  the  Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi.

Four (4) valuable  prizes  for  the  bingo game  were generously donated by one of our life members, Mr. Carmo Santos.

The President,  Alex Wilson Coelho,  thanked all those present and urged the  members  to continue to support the Society.
