Population

The population of the town according to 1951 census was 4872 of which 155 were agriculturist and others 4717. Of the latter 677 persons derived their principal means of livelihood from production other than cultivation ; 643 from commerce ; 148 from transport and 3249 from other services and miscellaneous sources. Population in 1998 was10,985.
