Shree Kshetra Mahableshwar (Old Mahableshwar)
Towards the north of Mahableshwar at about 5 km is the temple area also known as Old Mahableshwar. This place is named after Lord Shiva’s temple. The Mahableshwar temple has “Swayambhu” Shivalinga with many steams flowing. Next to the Mahableshwar temple is another temple called “Aatibaleshwar”. Next to this temple is the Panchganga temple. It is believed that the five rivers namely Krishna, Koyna, Venna, Gayatri and Savitri meet at this place. At the base of a high stone wall, about 3 ft apart are the five holes through which the water flows. These are supposed to be the five rivers which after running for about 8-10 ft , unite and fall through the mouth of a carved stone cow into a cistern. Nearby in the vicinity is the temple of Lord Rama. Due to all these ancient temples Mahableshwar is believed to be one of the religious place of Hindus. The area is also called Brahma Aranya.
